Colleen is a passionate leader with 20 years of experience in education. She holds a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University, a Master of Science degree in Reading from Southern Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education from Loyola College in Maryland.
Colleen began her career in education as a special education teacher in the Bridgeport Public Schools. Her journey continued five years later with a move to the Fairfield Public Schools, where she continued her career as a special education teacher. During this time, Colleen discovered her true teaching passion: reading. After completing her MS in Reading, Colleen pursued the position of Language Arts Specialist at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield. This position allowed her to thrive as a literacy leader at both the building and district level, working to improve reading decoding, comprehension and engagement for all students. Colleen joined the Westport Public Schools in 2012 as a Vice Principal at Bedford Middle School. Colleen is most proud to work with the dedicated team of educators who call Bedford home. Her primary areas of focus are the sixth grade and Response to Intervention teams, the Language Arts and Social Studies departments, as well as the Workshop and Theatre programs. Colleen strives to provide a seamless transition for students and their families as they enter middle school, as well as to create ongoing opportunities for parents and teachers to work together toward the common goal of emotional and academic success for all students.
Outside of school, Colleen enjoys time at the beach, watching New England Patriot games and cooking with her husband and two children. She reviews books for School Library Journal each month, and still enjoys reading for pleasure as often as she can.
