Jacquelyn M. Mellin
Jacquelyn M. Mellin is a proactive leader with over 15 years of commitment to educating and nurturing the growth and well-being of students. She knew she wanted to be an educator from a very young age; born into a family of teachers. Jacquelyn earned her certification in administration from Sacred Heart University and her Sixth Year Degree as a Mathematics Instructional Specialist from Southern Connecticut State University. Jacquelyn attended the prestigious Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut and graduated with a Master’s of Arts in Education and Bachelor's of Science in Elementary and Special Education with a concentration in mathematics.
Jacquelyn launched her teaching career as a special education teacher within the Darien Public School system. She later went on to teach secondary mathematics for the Trumbull Public Schools. Jacquelyn was then offered the opportunity to work with the Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES), one of Connecticut’s six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESC), as a Mathematics Curriculum Specialist. While at ACES, Jacquelyn attended top professional development opportunities throughout the country and applied these cutting edge techniques to her own staff development she led in mathematics. She is a member of the Tri-State Consortium and has participated in multiple district tours to ensure high quality teaching and learning. Upon completion of her certification in administration, Jacquelyn moved on to become the district-level K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Specialist for the South Windsor Public Schools. She supported the district with the adoption of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and was the district testing coordinator.
As a Bedford Middle School Vice Principal, Jacquelyn ensures the safety and well-being of all grade 7 students. She aspires to make a personal connection with each student; recognizing that learning begins with a safe and happy environment where students feel supported and welcomed to experience new opportunities. Jacquelyn designs and maintains the master schedule while leading essential planning to ensure smooth transitions and functionality for all students and staff. Jacquelyn serves on the Westport district math team collaborating with her colleagues to design rigorous mathematics instruction for all students. With open and thoughtful communication, Jacquelyn forms positive relationships with the BMS parent, teacher, and student community.
Jacquelyn is the mother of three very busy boys Nathaniel, Cayden, and Alekzander and Darwin, the family Schnauzer. She enjoys swimming, kickboxing, going to the beach, kayaking, and relaxing with a good book once her kids are asleep!
